What are angels? Traditionally they were considered to be supernatural beings shaped as humans of extraordinary beauty. Found in many religions and called messengers, holy ones, watchers, guardians, and often depicted with wings, they were described as pure and bright, formed of fire, and encompassed by light. Everyone has their own interpretation, and CDAA members are no exception.

Ruby Wing Peace Angel
Linda Danielson: This doll is a 24” wall doll. The wings are made from cotton fibre maché, molded in my original plaster mold. The costume is made of recycled skirts, scarves and antique linens. The photography is by Jeff Danielson.

Lydia, Angel of the Ya-Ya’s
Cindee Moyer: all fabric construction with a hand-dyed velvet dress and hand-dyed scrim jacket. Wings of irridescent cellophane. She has dyed wool hair to match and wears a small gold crown.

Brass and Bronze Patchwork
Heraldic Icon

Alixandra Jordan: Made on felt with patches of white, bronze, brown, and gold, with gold, black, and brown sequins. Her wings are brown felt with gold sequins and black beads. Her hair is made from gold coloured woven cord, with the stands unwoven. Photographs taken by Linda Bowland.

Saramin
Sherry Del Rizzo: is our Christmas angel for our home this year and will be on our Christmas card as well. She is a cloth stump doll and has machine embroidery, silk ribbon embroidery and beading on her dress and wings.

Angel
Deborah Downey: This is a doll I made a few years ago. She was made out of panty hose, beads, feathers and fabric for the top of a tree. She’s rather old but awfully happy!

Choir Angels
Dymoon Chen: I had two vases that screamed out to be recycled. Actually the Silver Angel, I knew as soon as I saw the container that she was going to be an angel with wings... the cut glass vase was a different story, she didn’t take wing until I found her head.

The Reluctant Angel
Charie Wilson:
I wanted his expression to appear as though he’s just crossed over and he is in shock that somehow he has become a angel. He is by no means a traditional angel and he certainly is not pleased.

Tree Top Angel
Deborah Colston: The skirt is a cone and could go on the tree or stand on a table as a guardian angel. She is painted muslin.

Maura
Lucy Garvin: She’s one of a series of angel wall dolls that use a very basic shape and showcase fabric techniques that I like to play with. The inspiration was a scrap of purple lace from Linda Lundstrom’s factory.
