Creating a Custom Mohair Wig 14DW
Diane Keeler Luck, Wisconsin U.S.A. - www.niada.org/DianeKeeler/index.html
Thursday, May 10 - 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Have you ever been frustrated at not being able to create the exact hairstyle for your doll? Students learned how to make a custom fitted, realistic, removable mohair wig for any type of doll, whether it is polymer, fabric, paper clay or porcelain. The wig was built on a cap, which was a custom fit for their creation, then removed and styled the way students wished. The advantage of this is students can finish their piece without the hair getting in the way. They also learned basic hair styling and cutting tips. Diane Keeler discovered polymer clay as a medium in 1987 and in her own words, There was no turning back. She had been searching all her life for the medium that would fill her soul. When Diane discovered doll sculpting, everything she had experienced came together to create this art form. Realism had been her goal and in addition to her sculpting classes, she also teaches a class in constructing very realistic doll wigs. Her philosophy is to keep searching and learning. In doing so, she helps to promote the doll as an accepted art form. |
