Peeking Pixies 17TDW
Jenny Romano (CDAA) Metung, Victoria, AU - www.dollartists.ca/workshops/jennyr/jenny.html

Friday - Saturday, May 11-12 - 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Back by popular demand. Hailing from Down-Under, Jenny once again brought her unique felting ideas. In this 2 day workshop, students created a pixie –cone- head, hat and hands using both wet and dry felting techniques. Using tea-dyed Corriedale wool fleece and a felting needle, Jenny showed how to create character, put a twinkle in the eye and make a natural looking mouth. Emphasis was on light and shade, creating depth, firming the features and smoothing the finished face. On day 2 students created hands and assemble. Using a wet felting technique they then made a hat for their pixie using hand-dyed fine Merino wool and assorted yarns.

Jenny Romano began her doll making career upon retirement from teaching 8 years ago. Her first dolls were made from polymer clay. She has won awards at CDAA conferences and in Australia where she now lives. Initially, she focused on the portrayal of realistic figures and Santas. In recent years she has begun creating interesting character and fantasy figures. Since being exposed to the art of needle felting she has taken this medium into depths unknown, enjoying the challenges created from sculpting with assorted fleeces. Jenny has written entertaining accounts of her travels in OZ and of her quests in search of new and interesting material and media for her art.
